From 1995 to 1997 the Hanseatic City of Rostock in cooperation with
the university of Rostock built the "Research Centre for
Biosystem technology and Bio-materials" in its district
Warnemünde. The project has been promoted by the Ministery of
Economic Affairs of Mecklenburg West Pomerania and the EU.

The former research and production complex makes possible commercially oriented research and development and eases the way into the market economy for young, technology oriented businesses. The overall 5,035 m² have become the home of companies from the fields of medicinal appliance design, biotechnology and bio-medicine, of laser and measurement technology and of cell and implantation technology.

Having many companies of inter-related technologies within the
direct neighbourhood (in part hive-offs from the research centre)
means that it is possible to offer the best in research and working
conditions
for scientists and companies as well as a rapid exploitability of
research results in order to turn them into marketable products. The
close, interdisciplinary networking of biologists, medics, physicists
and engineers in the field of micro physiological and bioelectrical
cell analysis and cell sensory test and the technical deployment of
bio-systems is a great advantage to our tenants in terms of location.

Facts and figures:
Investment costs of 18.3 million Euros (incl. 90 % development funds
of the State and the EU)
